Last Time Updated: December 31, 2008

THE Sounds of 2008:

Today, as it is the last day of 2008 and it seems like everyone else is making their listings about anything and everything, I decided to make my very own music listing which includes what I think are/were THE sounds of the year, meaning, what I liked best and just couldn't stop playing over and over again.

- Kanye West - Many of his songs--especially "American Boy"

- Amandititita - Most of her songs

- Santogold - Many of her songs

- Vanexxa - "Carretera"

- Yusa - "Walking Heads"

- Hot Chip - All of their songs

- The Ting Tings - All of their songs

- Maria Daniela y S.S.L. - Her whole new album - Kings of Leon - "Sex on Fire"

- MGMT - Couple of their songs

- Dionysos - Most of their songs

- Bufi - ALL of his songs!

- Ximena Sariñana - Most of her songs

- Simona - "Don't Chu Get It"

- Katy Perry - "I Kissed a Girl"

- The Last Shadow Puppets - Many of their new songs

- Stereo Total - "I Love you Ono"

- Cansei de Ser Sexy - "Left Begind"

- Prietto Viaja al Cosmos con Mariano - "Av. Corrientes"

- Britney Spears - "Womanizer"

And well, perhaps a few more but that's all I can think of as off now. Let's hope 2009 is a way better year for music!

Latest acquisitions (downloads):

Well, it's been quite a while since I last updated this section, and when I say "quite", I mean a whole lot of time! So long I don't even buy CD's anymore, well, rarely to tell the truth, now I "download"...as does everyone else I know, right? The digital era overcame my old beliefs (musically speaking). So, I'm gonna start with the latest recommendations. This should be fun as it's way easier to just go and download a song than to actually go to the record store and buy an album. Here we go then:

Bufi - Being a new local talent in the city ( Mexico , obviously), Bufi is a DJ who brings a lot of funky and interesting beats to the current scene. He is part of this sort of Collective/Record Company, formed by a group of friends, called Le Touch (http://letouch.blogspot.com), which has various talented people among their signed artists. “Homeless Hero” is the name of Bufi´s first production, at least, under that name, which is actually his second last name. Among the best tracks, we find songs such as “We Begin”, first single off that record, “Homeless Hero”, “Like a Child”, “Make it Over” and “Endless”, as well as “Cassius Remix”. In spite of being a new project in the local scene, Bufi is stepping on solid ground as the first single off “Homeless Hero” has been given very good rotation on the radio and not only that, but it´s been very well received by the audience as well; also, he´s working hard and playing a lot of venues every weekend, so if you live in Mexico City and like good music, even though you´re not much into the electronic genre, I would highly recommend you to go and check Bufi out personally as he is worth it.

Ximena Sariñana - You may remember her from a few Mexican films she´s worked in, some good, some pretty lousy…if you do, well, I´d advise you to forget about it as she is a much better singer than she is an actress. Not only is she VERY talented and has a great voice, but she is also a good performer…and makes pretty funny/weird moves on stage haha. Officially, Ximena just put out her first record, called “Mediocre”, but she has been doing music for quite a while now as she studied at Fermatta (a very well known school of music in the city) and she´s even participated in several different Soundtracks for various movies (“Amarte Duele” included). Although her music is not the kind of music that you like instantly but the kind of music that grows on you, it is absolutely worth to listen to the whole album, which some of the best tracks are: “ La Tina ”, “Normal”, “Mediocre”, “Sintiendo Rara”, and “Monitor” among others. Plus, she gets points for not being one of those low-class crappy popstars who can´t actually sing and have silly/non-sense lyrics. iPod On-The-Go a.k.a. Lo de Hoy:

These are a few of the songs I can't stop playing on my iPod all the time these days, they're all quite awesome, not to mention catchy, that's why I take the iPod wherever I go and overplay them. Ha!

- Estelle Ft. Kanye West - "American Boy"

- Vanexxa - "Carretera"

- Yusa - "Walking Heads"

- Hot Chip - "Ready for the Floor"

- The Ting Tings - "Shut up and let me Go"

- MGMT - "Time to Pretend"

- Bufi - "Endless"

- Ximena Sariñana - "Normal"
